Even more speed

Little Rock Parkview Coach Lahoma Howard has always banked on team speed as one of the Lady Patriots' strengths. This year, Howard says her team may be the quickest she's ever had.

"I think it's a little bit more this year," said Howard, who is in her 15th year as Parkview's coach. "I think the girls have more maturity in them, and they have stepped it up during the summer. I believe they've started to taste the energy they have in them and to compete at a higher notch. They are definitely wanting to go to the next level."

Parkview begins its season Thursday night against Marianna.

Morgan Brady, a 5-7 senior point guard, is the Lady Patriots' team captain.

"We're putting a lot on her back this season," Howard said. "We can only be as successful as she is at leading her teammates. She's been showing that leadership every day, giving her all and when the girls aren't doing what they're supposed to do, she's putting them back in line."

Brady averaged 15 points a game as a junior.

"I think if we are going to win a state championship, it's going to take great chemistry and it's going to take competing every day," Brady said. "Right now, we're doing that."
